SJTA Shree Jagannatha Temple Annual Festival Calendar 2013, Puri

The universally propitiated Lord Shree Jagannath Mahaprabhu has been manifested at the citadel of the bejewelled throne of ShriKshetra PURI-the best among the four dhamas of India. Shree Jagannath Mahaprabhu Temple known as the PURUSHOTTAM KSHETRA built in 12th century by king Anata Verma Chodaganga Dev, a ruler of Ganga Dynasty. PURI,the temple town is located in Odisha State on the east coast of India.

Shri Jagannath rites and rituals are being observed every year with the treaties of the "Shastra"-ancient scriptures i.e. according to the Hindu Sanatha Dharma.The most important and famous festival among all the rituals is Shri Jagannath Ratha Yatra.

This festival is known as the summer Festival of the Lord of the Universe. The Jatra starts from Akshya Trutiya, the third of the bright fortnight of the month of Baisakha(Vaishaka)[May] and continuous for 42 days. During this festival Madan Mohan-representative deity of Shree Jagannath Mahaprabhu along with ShriDevi & BhuDevi, Rama(Balarama), Krishna, Lokanath, Jameshwar, Markandeswar, Nilakantheswar and Kapalamochan make joy ride by two decorated boats in the Sacred Narendra Tank for 21 days.

This festival is celebrated On the full moon day of month of Jyestha(May/June). Deities are brought to the Snanamandap and bathed with 108 pitchers of Holy Water. In the evening, deities are dressed with Gajanana Besha.
Chariot Festival(PURI Jagannath Ratha Yatra)

This festival is known as Car Festival or Bahuda - PURI JAGANNATH RATHA YATRA.This is an Unique Festival of Shree Jagannath Puri which held on 2nd day of bright fortnight of the month of Ashadha(july/august)). On the day of return(eight day) Chariot Festival Shree Gajapati Maharaja performs the ritual of LakshmiNarayana Bheta in front of Shree Nahar(King's Palace). On the day following is Ekadasi(Suna besha on the Chariot), "Adhara Pana" are being offered to the deities in Big Earthen Pots. The deities are taken to the Main Temple in a traditional and Ceremonial manner called "Pahandi"

Maa Durga-Madhab(a small idol of Shri Jagannath Mahaprabhu) from the eight day of the Dark fortnight of Ashwina, SHOLA PUJA(Devi Puja for 16 days) of Goddess Bimala is performed.Within this period, for eight days, Maa Durga along with Lord Madhab are being carried to the Bimala Temple for worship and for next eight days they are being carried out to the Narayani Temple located at "Dolamandap Sahi" for special pooja which is also known as Gupta Gundicha

Ratha Kaatha Anukula

On the day of Basantha Panchami i.e. the 5th day of bright fortnight of the month Magha, the Woods for Chariots arrive on the Ratha Khala(Grand Road) and worshipped in front of Shrr Jagannath Temple office which is known as "Ratha Kaatha anukula"
