TTD Tirumala: Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam(Purification) 2015 Festival Dates

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams TTD performs Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam inside the Tirumala temple for 4 times in a year normally. The Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam is celebrated early in the morning on the Tuesdays only before Ugadi Festival(Telugu New Year's Day), Anivara Asthanam(normally on July 16/17), Srivari Annual Brahmotsavam and Vaikunta Ekadasi. This festival is a periodical Arjitha Seva conducted in Srivari Temple in a year.

Meaning of Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam:
Koil Alwar means Temple(Holy Shrine). Purification of Sanctum Santorum(Holy Shrine)  and Temple premises is known as  Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam. 

Description of Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam Seva & Its Significance:

  • During this festival, before performing Tirumanjanam, Mula Virat(the main deity of the temple) is covered with MalaiGudaram(మలైగుడారం)[Vastram/Cloth] to avoid from Dust, Wind and Water.  
  • All the utsava murties residing in the temple except Boga Srinivasa Murti will be brought to Tirumamani Mandapam and  perform Tirumanjanam(purification). 
  • Garbhagriha, Temple walls, Temple Ceilings, floors, pillars and every corner of the temple will be cleaned with Camphor, Sandal paste, Saffron, Turmeric and Water. 
  • Archana/Pooja and Deepam articles also will be purified at VimanaPradakshina in the temple premises. 
  • After completion of tirumanjanam, the covering of the main deity is then removed and the deities, pooja/deepam and other articles will be replaced inside the temple. 
  • Purification pujas and Naivedyams are then offered to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy, the main deity of the temple. This festival is performed strictly as per the Vaikhanasa Agamas.
