Kumbh Mela 2013 - Important Temples in and around Allahabad City

Allahabad known by its ancient name Prayag, is the second oldest city in India and is located in Uttarpradesh State, India. Maha Kumbh Mela will be celebrated from 27 January, 2013 to 25 Febuary, 2013 at Triveni Sangam, Allahabad.

Prayag has been known as the Greatest Pilgrimage since the Rig Veda Era. It is mentioned in Mahabharat, Agnipuran, Padmapuran, Suryapuran that Prayag is the holiest of all Prilgrimage. It is also mentioned in Vinyan Patrika that Gautma Buddha had traversed through PRAYAG in 450BC. Apart from the holiest Kumbh Mela, Allahabad has its importance with an enriching of  ancient Temples and Historical Places.

Someshwar Temple: Someshwar Temple is the abode of Lord Shiva. It is an ancient temple situated opposite to the Allahabad Fort across Triveni Sangam in the Arail Area(one of the area in allahabad city). In order to get "PURNA PAHALAM" for Allahabad(PRAYAG) Yatra, one should worship Someshwar Shiva Lingam. It is the place of Ekadasi Rudra. Someshwar Madhav was one of the Eleven Rudras.

Mankameshwar Temple: Lord Shiva is located in this temple and is located in Barra Tahsil(Taluk) 40km from south-west from Allahabad. It is belived that the 3.5feet Shiv Lingam was installed by Lord ShriRama while going to Chitra koot.



Lalitha Devi Temple: Lalitha Devi Temple is the abode of Shaktipeetha of Lalitha Devi. It is located at  a distance of 4km from Allahabad railway station in Mirapur Area. 





Kalyani Devi Temple: Goddess Kalyani Devi is one the Sacred 51 Sakthipeethas of Lalitha Devi. It is located on the banks of the river yamuna in Kalyani Devi Area, 3km from Allahabad railway station. Lord Shankar and Goddess Kalyani Devi are the main idols of this temple.
Alopi Devi Mandir: The temple is situated in Alopi Bagh and is nearer to the holy Triveni Sangam. This Temple is very peculiar in a way that there is no statue of any Deity. Here only there is a wooden carriage of Doli which is worshipped. 



Shivkuti Temple: In this temple premises, Lord Lakshmi Narayana Temple and Goddess Durga Temple are situated. This temple is located on the northern end of Allahabad city on the bank of the river Ganga.





Hatkeshwar Nath Temple: The temple is the abode of Lord Shiva(Hatkeshwar Nath). It is located in heart of the Alllahabad City on the Zero Road.






Shankar Viman Mandapam: The Temple was built by Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peeth in South Indian style of Architecture. Goddess Kamakshi Devi(with 51 Shakti Peethas around), Lord balaji(with 108 Lord Vishnu around) and Lord Shiva are installed in this temple.




Padila mahadev Temple: It is located 3km North-East of Phaman in Soraon Thasil(Thaluk). It is made completely of Stone and has several Statues. A very big fair is held on Maha Shivratri and in the month of Phalguna.




Shringverpur: It is located in Soraon Tehsil 33km from Allahabad. It is the place of Shringi Rishi Temple and Goddess Shanta.






 Venu Madhav Temple: This is the temple of Goddess Radha and Lord Shri Krishna located in Daraganj. Among the 12 Venu Madhav deities in PRAYAG, this is the only Temple close to the Triveni Sangam.

Sri Sri Radha Venu Madhava Temple: It is the ISKCON Mandir situated on the holy yamuna river.
